Webquest - The Declaration of Independence

Aside from our fantastic sports teams, Philadelphia is a city rich in American history and importance. To truly know Philadelphia is to love it. In order to have a true appreciation for the Philadelphia of today, we must know the ins and outs of its past.

Perhaps one of the most notable events in Philadelphia’s past is the role it played in the birth of our nation and America’s independence. After years of growing unrest within its colonies, thirteen delegates were sent to Philadelphia to form the First Continental Congress in 1774. From there, the rest was history….or was it?

The decision to break from England wasn’t an easy one. Imagine risking your way of life for a relatively uncertain future. Were all colonists in support of the decision? What were the differing opinions of the time and the repercussions of the decisions made by Congress? It’s your job to find out!
